Fyxation Session 700 now Available in 700x23c!

Hi,

We wanted to send you a quick email letting you know that the Session 700 is now available in a 700x23c. It's been a long time coming and we're stoked to finally have the Sessions in a smaller size that will fit most frames. The new tires will be available in the same 11 color options as the 700x28c sessions.

As a reminder, the Session 700 is a tire designed to handle the toughest urban riding conditions. Each tire has a Kevlar belt for rolling flat protection, an aggressive full wrap around tread for sick traction and each tire is 120TPI and foldable. While we don't sell the Sessions as a skidding tire, the black compound we use is the same hardness as a long wearing touring tire and can hold up well in the toughest conditions. As always, we recommend you use the Dual Compounds (DC Sessions) or our solid black if your plan is to throw in the occasional skid.

Boise Happy Hours is gathering everyone together for a good old Pub Crawl! Sept 4th

Need somewhere to put your bike on campus?

one of the big obstacles to riding a bike to campus is security. How can you assure that your bike will not be stolen or vandalized? With many security and parking personnel patrolling the campus, most high-visibility areas are safe, but incidents do still occur.

To help, a new bike barn will open this fall. The Bike Barn is a special fenced-off segment of the Brady parking garage that can store 65 bicycles on special racks. Students, faculty and staff can park their bikes away from inclement weather and under the watchful eye of security cameras. The gated entryway can only be activated by those who have signed up for the service through the parking office.

Cost is $15 per semester. Call the Transportation and Parking Services Office at 426-7275.

We are committed to providing $1,460 per month for a ½ time Executive Director (initially as a contractor) and seek a professional to meet the challenge of raising the operating budget and advancing the priorities of this start up organization. This will grow into a full time position when budget permits. Skills in marketing, fundraising, membership development, organization, outreach and program and working with a board. Work initially from your home office with your computer, telephone, etc. Resume and cover letter to president@idahopedbike.org by August 23.

The Ten Commandments of the Tour de Fat:

1. Put no means of transport before thy bike: Come by bike because not only are bikes fun, but they help stave off some of our most wicked ills: Traffic, laziness, and pollution. Tour de Fat has a solution: ride this day, every day, and definitely when Tour de Fat heads your way.

2. Honor all other bikes: All bikes are good bikes, and all those who ride them are good people. This is the one Bike Festival that cherishes bicycle diversity on our Cruise-ade through town.

3. May every generation come forth: This is a family friendly event. Costumes, bikes and a parade? We were thinking like kids when we created Tour de Fat.

4. Thou shall come as a participant not a spectator: It's a costumed celebration of human-powered transportation. Muscles not motors, coasters, v-brakes and rotors. Come in your favorite alter ego, because when everybody's weird, no one is.

5. Thou shalt not bring booze; But enjoy the supplied malted adult refreshments responsibly: Please do not bring any outside alcohol on the ride or into the park. It could result in getting the event shut down...don't be that guy. And when you imbibe in our tasty brews, remember this is a Bicycle Festival with beer, not the other way around.

6. New Belgium shalt not profit: Our goal is to raise money for bicycle and environmental charities. New Belgium Brewing Company does NOT retain any of the events' proceeds. Please think of your $5 beer tokens as donations to a worthy cause. All sales are final; beer tokens do not expire and will be accepted next year (does not include TEXAS).

7. Remember the purpose, and bring not your pooches: No canine friends allowed this year. We're a dog-loving Brewery, but sadly not all municipalities and parks are. Please leave your best friends at home for their safety and the safety of others.

8. Keep the day true with thy good juju: The ride is free, but we suggest a $5 donation to the good bike advocates who are putting it on for you (does not include TEXAS). If you give more, you will not incur flats, mechanical troubles, or dry skin for a while…maybe. This is a celebration of the bike, not an anti-car rally. All tools have their place.

9. Thou shall rise early: Since Tour de Fat is a free show, we sometimes get more folks than we can accommodate. Once we're full, we will handle overflow like a restaurant or bar: one in, one out. We reserve the right to determine the appropriate crowd size in the name of safety and enjoyment for those inside.

10. Thou shalt not steal thy neighbors' bike: Don't even think of leaving with a bike that doesn't belong to you. Modern-day horse thieves will be dealt with by angry mob, pitchforks, and torches.

It's one of my personal favorites, I started with B&S1 and have done everyone since. I keep dragging more and more folks out to play for the race, and they keep coming back.

the birth of DBRB

Three years ago this weekend Blackhappy, Vixen, Myself and Capt Fuck It gave birth to DBRB. We all rode in our very favorite Alley Cat - BARS & STRIPES. Believe it or not until this date I was on 9 months of being DRY! It was for shits n giggles - had no real reason to drink/nor on not too....

ANYWAY....

Blackhappy convinced me to ride this all city alley cat that was sponsored by bike messengers. Did I mention that at the time I was riding a WalMart Magna with mountain bike tires? So - why not? I had no idea what an alley cat was, and that I was participating in the BEER ride of the season! Once arriving at the Boise Weekly with 7 other buddies that Blackhappy convinced to ride, we all decided that there needed to be a distinct cut off of types of riders. There was Team Speed - with Blackhappy as the Captain- in it to win it!! Team Fran - which was the sober and finishing team (WTF?) Not an official team but Team Fuck It evolved DURING the ride!!!

Our first stop was the fairgrounds - followed by our second stop the 44 club - where my lungs were on fire!! Test Tube Kitty would not let me leave the bar without drinking - in a desperation to calm the fire I ordered my first beer in almost a year! I chugged half and passed the rest onto a team mate. I ran out the door for the next stop.....

The four of us on Team Fran whirled through the Sunday evening streets with 96 other riders - we rang our bells and screamed "Drink Beer Ride Bikes!" and other riders would respond with the same. As the four of us cannonballed from the Plank down capital hill there were riders who were chanting our motto as they rode up the hill. It was an amazing feeling, and not just because of the beer :)

As Team Fran was riding feverishly through town, Team Fuck It had made a distinct decision NOT to hit every spot. Capt Fuck It happened to ride her cruiser for the race. As Team Fran was headed to the 44 club, Capt F.I. hadn't even made it to the fairgrounds. But she was a trouper and caught up to us all on State Street headed for the Lucky Dog. Still a good half mile and one beer behind us, she arrived at the Dog, but before she could dismount for the bar, her bike clipped the curb and she went down. That was it, the last stop for her. She and the other cruiser riders sat at the Dog until the rest of us finished the race. Since then Team Fuck It has been the team to maintain the BEER part of Bars & Stripes.... Strict rules for being on this team:

The Team will find the straightest route from start to finish of the ride that has the most beer involved. You can only compete in beer pong, you will be drunk at the finish line. Very serious to be on Team Fuck It.

Team Speed - Capt Blackhappy - was hauling ass through town to the finish at O'Micheals. He was a team of one that year! Last year his team grew and this team there are even more hungry racers ready to getter done!

As the few of us in the group arrived at the finish and received our Natty Ice and lunch pail - we all whooped and hollered for North Star Owner Warren O'dell as he gave out the winnings... no of us won anything. But we had an amazing adventure.

We then went to Mulligans and proceeded to get trashed! It lasted until the four in the morning! And I've been drinking beer since!

Oh.... and VeloVixen beat us all that year.....darn her!

The next year we had almost 20 participants in our group waiting to registrar outside the Weekly.......

This year we are shooting for a solid 25+ representing DBRB! Doesn't matter what team!!!!

40 oz to Freedom

Well, I've been MIA from the blog for too long...I was starting to think that the Captain was going to make me walk the plank! Anyway, lots of updates, including some information about DBRB's next ride.

"40 oz to Freedom" had new meaning for me a few weeks ago when I had to go to SLC overnight. Unfortunately, when heading back the next morning, my dear, sweet Priscilla's engine started smoking. Yet, when life hands you a big bunch of expensive lemons, make some hard lemonade. To my delight, next door to the mechanic was the Wasatch & Squatters brewery!

I went on it to see what new treats I might be able to find - in addition to beer flavored lip balm, beer brauts, and other goodies, they have a larger selection of beer than I would have imagined. I sorted through the options to see what souvenirs I could bring back for a DBRB taste test latter.

For the Captain, I brought back "The Devastator." It's an Double Bock, 8% b.v., and delicious!

Vixen's choice was the easiest. The "1st Amendment Lager" has a great slogan on the bottle, "Give me liberty - or give me a cold one." Um, how about both? This one was even better than the Captain's.

For myself, I grabbed a little tail, "Chasing Tail" golden ale, that is. This was tasty, but not as good as the others.

Anyway, with a little more than 40 oz loaded into my good-as-last-week car, I headed towards home and freedom!

Now, onto DBRB's "40 oz to Freedom." As you may have heard, you need to mark your calendars for Sunday, August 15 for our next ride. Like our other rides, this will be a straight race - timing and routing will be the keys. Routing will be especially important this time. As you would assume, drinking will be involved. We're busy working on some awesome swag for all of you. It'll be great fun - don't miss it!

Symposium Bar

After a crazy evening of riding around Velocachingwith MEA & Velovixen - we needed a place to get outta the storm and carb load!!!

Located on the big dirt lot at 2801 Fletcher St, (Fairview and 27th) The Symposium is one of Boise's oldest and best dive bars! A full bar and a ton of free popcorn - there's chips you can order if you are desperate. I think it would be even better with a taco truck out side!

There's a pool table and a great jukebox also. No patio - so prepare your lungs before going in.

BUT - the best part of Symposium is the fact that ALL of my favorite people can hang out

there.....

The Sympo is one of the very few dog bars in town! As long as your four legged friend doesn't sneak behind the bar or hit on too many other pups - they are free to come and hang out!!!

To get there on bike - follow the greenbelt westward from Downtown or the Eastside - you can pop right up at 27th and follow the dirt to the bar!

From the Westside same thing - follow the greenbelt instead of getting squished in 27th street traffic.

And the four legged friends like the greenbelt too - cars can be a little dangerous for all of us!

There are plenty of out of town actors and shop workers that need transportation while they are working here during the summer. It's a great way for them to get to see the beautiful city we live in! And most of them haven't had the opportunity to ride in a long time!

So next time you are thinking of cleaning out your bike rack - head to the Idaho Shakespeare Festival!

Jodie, Noble, and Megan have been bustin' ass making sure that this ride will kick ass! There was a pre-registration on the web, but if you didn't make it on the list you should still show up on Sat... Some people might not show and you can take their spot!!! The theme this year is IDAHO - so with it what you will! The Finish is at Leku Ona on sixth - so if you don't ride - at least come support the ladies that are!!!

Men allegedly use case of beer as weapon in heist

PUEBLO, Colo. — Bud Light may not be advertising these two as “Real Men of Genius.” Two men are accused of using an 18-pack case of Bud Light as a weapon while stealing beer at a Loaf ‘N Jug convenience store.

The men are accused of stealing three cases of Bud Light from the store early Saturday. According to police, one of the men used a case of the beer to hit a clerk during the theft. The clerk wasn’t seriously hurt.

Police officers chased the suspects on foot. The affidavit said police found two cases of beer in a back yard, then went inside and found the men. The men are awaiting court appearances.

A really cool new organization - Idaho Pedestrian and Bicycle Alliance (IPBA) needs our help!

In order to receive the first $5,000 of their matching grant they need to raise $2,500 by the end of June. So here is what I am asking - is advocating for your rights as a bicyclist important to you? Is it worth $25? $50? $100?

I am asking YOU to visit the IPBA website and join online as a $25 member. If you can give more, please consider adding a donation to the organization.

In April IPBA received a $20,000 matching grant to support legislation promoting bicylists' and pedestrians' rights and safety and advocating for funding for infrastructure projects that support promote active transportation - yeah biking - among other goals.

The Ultimate Urban Challenge to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Idaho is an exhilarating adventure designed for the most Xtreme enthusiast or a group of individuals just looking to have a good time. This competition challenges the body, mind, and senses in the Urban setting of Boise. Using clues, teams of four will bike to the correct destination and complete the assigned tasks. The full challenge is expected to take between four and six hours to complete while the half challenge is expected to take between 2-3 hours to complete. Immediately following the race all participants are invited to participate in a post race party that entails food, drinks and entertainment.
The Ultimate Urban Challenge is designed to be more than an event. It is an overall experience that demonstrates an internal desire to succeed when faced with obstacles that are both mentally and physically challenging. A desire to succeed keeps participants motivated even when it is easier to give up; just like a “wish” provides children with hope, strength and joy during a time of need. As a team, the Ultimate Urban Challenge participants will experience hope as they strive to succeed, strength when they want to quit and joy as they cross the finish line; much like the experience a wish child encounters on their own personal journey back to health.

In our recent weekend fling with the Seattle area, Vixen and I were delighted to meet Gordon. Now the story is longer than it should be, but I'm going to tell it anyway.

We went to see Grace in Gig Harbor (Vixen's Momma) - Grace is not at all a beer drinker - how she spawned Vixen I have no idea. This being the third time I'd been to visit, Grace has learned that I enjoy a few tall cold ones on occasion. As we arrive at her home and she begins to cook dinner she offers us a beer. I was flattered that she had purchased beer for us. Then she explained how she had choose said beer:

She went to the beer aisle and stared blankly at the varieties before her. She has no clue even what the difference between ale and stout are. She knows Guinness because she cooks with it, but has never seen us drinking it. She looks at the labels with gargoyles on it (Stone IPA), decides no to violent. She finds another beer, but it was incredible expensive. She looks around in hopes that someone will realize she is in desperate need of help. She decides on a case of beer on the top shelf (Grace is a smidgen smaller than Vixen) as she tip toes the case off of the shelf she looks at the top and there are dead horse flies on the case. Horse flies don't live in the Seattle area - it is too wet. She abandons the case immediately, looks again at the beers with despair. In front of the Gordon Beer is a sign that resembles the wine rating signs. She knows wine and if this has a rating well it must be good. She grabbed the four cans and proceeded to the check out, not realizing they were more expensive that the 6pack she was looking at earlier - oh well she at least had found something.

Grace did a wonderful job! This copper was super smooth and a little sweet. I had never heard of the Oskar Blues having a third beer (Dan and Chub being the others) - and this was great! I sent Lemon Pepper a text - she was in Colorado - "get this beer if you can it's great" She was too busy at an Avalanche Game - Geez.

We brew Gordon in tribute to the late Gordon Knight. In addition to opening some of Colorado’s first microbreweries, Knight was a Vietnam vet, grade-A citizen, and huge promoter of craft beer. He lost his life in 2002 while fighting a wild fire outside of Lyons, Colorado.
Originally our winter seasonal beer, it has become a cult favorite of extreme-beer lovers, so we now brew occasional batches of Gordon throughout the year. Released in bottles in 2003 and 2004, Gordon is now sold in four packs of hand-labeled cans and on draft in select markets.

I have yet to see if the beer is available around here - but if I do find it I will relay the local for all of you! Thanks Grace for introducing us!

One for the good guys. Seems like BPD actually is on the tails of those out there snagging our bikes. As of 10am this morning they contacted Aqua Boy with conformation that they had found his lost Paddy Wagon. According to the Detective they have been doing an ongoing investigation on a bike stealing crime ring. When the Jack Ass tried to pawn the Wagon - they got him. Thank goodness Aqua Boy filled that report with his serial number! This is a good reminder for all of us to go turn our bikes upside down and record our own numbers! Thanks BPD for being on the trail!

Lowering your ears

As most of you know I sport some type of cap or do rag on my cranium almost always. This is for many justifiable reasons (at least in my head it's justified) When I am at work I cannot have my hair dangling in my face while trying to swing a hammer - not safe. Two: when riding I cannot have my hair poking me in the eyes - again, not safe. Three: my lazy ass just can't get up early enough to "do" my hair. Besides all of these really good reasons, my hair is a poof ball of curls in the morning! Vixen calls me her fraggle. And it is even worse when it is washed and left to it's own demise.

But alas, when Blackbird and Vixen are noticing the poof creeping out of my do rag and giving me crap about being a hippie, I break down and get a haircut. I only do it every six months or so. Mostly because I'm lazy. But that is a shame because when I do finally decide to cut it - I love my hair styles and what she does with my poof.

As most of you all know the last month has been none stop for Vixen and I. For two weeks I was working 16 - 18 hours a day. With two or three shows going on at the same time. In the meantime Vixen was in and out of town like Hotti Regotti! I think I saw her twice in three weeks. Although the money was great with all of the gigs - the whole thing took a toll on me mentally and physically.
You know it's a bad sign when your debt card receipts are all from either Liquid or Solid, and even worse when there are some from the same day. There was only one way to survive - drink a lot of beer and coffee! Unfortunately bar food and Alia's bagels do not make a healthy diet.
On top of that with Vixen gone, I stayed out too late drinking, slept like crap, and would wake up and rinse and repeat. As Blackbird said - "I looked like shit."
Well, Vixen is home! Yeah! I am sleeping better and eating food cooked at home -there is a roast on as I am typing! Not only that I have had the time to get on my bike! I had forgotten how therapeutic riding is.

So - I promise to blog more and I hope to see you all out riding, not so much the drinking part until my liver forgives me. Later

May Day - the Real Labor Day

May 1st, International Workers' Day, commemorates the historic struggle of working people throughout the world, and is recognized in every country except the United States, Canada, and South Africa. This despite the fact that the holiday began in the 1880s in the United States, with the fight for an eight-hour work day.

In 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions passed a resolution stating that eight hours would constitute a legal day's work from and after May 1, 1886. The resolution called for a general strike to achieve the goal, since legislative methods had already failed. With workers being forced to work ten, twelve, and fourteen hours a day, rank-and-file support for the eight-hour movement grew rapidly, despite the indifference and hostility of many union leaders. By April 1886, 250,000 workers were involved in the May Day movement.

The heart of the movement was in Chicago, organized primarily by the anarchist International Working People's Association. Businesses and the state were terrified by the increasingly revolutionary character of the movement and prepared accordingly. The police and militia were increased in size and received new and powerful weapons financed by local business leaders. Chicago's Commercial Club purchased a $2000 machine gun for the Illinois National Guard to be used against strikers. Nevertheless, by May 1st, the movement had already won gains for many Chicago clothing cutters, shoemakers, and packing-house workers. But on May 3, 1886, police fired into a crowd of strikers at the McCormick Reaper Works Factory, killing four and wounding many. Anarchists called for a mass meeting the next day in Haymarket Square to protest the brutality.

The meeting proceeded without incident, and by the time the last speaker was on the platform, the rainy gathering was already breaking up, with only a few hundred people remaining. It was then that 180 cops marched into the square and ordered the meeting to disperse. As the speakers climbed down from the platform, a bomb was thrown at the police, killing one and injuring seventy. Police responded by firing into the crowd, killing one worker and injuring many others.

Although it was never determined who threw the bomb, the incident was used as an excuse to attack the entire Left and labor movement. Police ransacked the homes and offices of suspected radicals, and hundreds were arrested without charge. Anarchists in particular were harassed, and eight of Chicago's most active were charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with the Haymarket bombing. A kangaroo court found all eight guilty, despite a lack of evidence connecting any of them to the bomb-thrower (only one was even present at the meeting, and he was on the speakers' platform), and they were sentenced to die. Albert Parsons, August Spies, Adolf Fischer, and George Engel were hanged on November 11, 1887. Louis Lingg committed suicide in prison, The remaining three were finally pardoned in 1893.

It is not surprising that the state, business leaders, mainstream union officials, and the media would want to hide the true history of May Day, portraying it as a holiday celebrated only in Moscow's Red Square. In its attempt to erase the history and significance of May Day, the United States government declared May 1st to be "Law Day", and gave us instead Labor Day - a holiday devoid of any historical significance other than its importance as a day to swill beer and sit in traffic jams.

Nevertheless, rather than suppressing labor and radical movements, the events of 1886 and the execution of the Chicago anarchists actually mobilized many generations of radicals. Emma Goldman, a young immigrant at the time, later pointed to the Haymarket affair as her political birth. Lucy Parsons, widow of Albert Parsons, called upon the poor to direct their anger toward those responsible - the rich. Instead of disappearing, the anarchist movement only grew in the wake of Haymarket, spawning other radical movements and organizations, including the Industrial Workers of the World.

By covering up the history of May Day, the state, business, mainstream unions and the media have covered up an entire legacy of dissent in this country. They are terrified of what a similarly militant and organized movement could accomplish today, and they suppress the seeds of such organization whenever and wherever they can. As workers, we must recognize and commemorate May Day not only for it's historical significance, but also as a time to organize around issues of vital importance to working-class people today.

Almost a year after one of the most high-profile fatal traffic crashes in the Treasure Valley, the boy who struck and killed a cyclist on Hill Road learned his punishment - and so did the family and friends of Kevin Pavlis, though most may never know the name of the teen driver.

Eric Pavlis, the older brother of the well-known cyclist, said Wednesday he thought the sentence was "mostly fair."

"I thought the (teen) displayed real, heartfelt remorse for what happened," Eric Pavlis said.

The crash was the third to kill a cyclist in Boise in less than a month last spring, and sparked an outcry for the boy to be punished that only grew in intensity over the five months the prosecutors took to contemplate the charges.

Fourth District Juvenile Judge William Harrigfeld has decided not to identify the teen publicly - an option since the boy was charged as a juvenile - but Harrigfeld did release the sentence.

Along with jail time and community service, the boy must serve probation for three years and have all driving privileges suspended for at least one year.

He must undergo counseling, attend safe driving class and pay an undisclosed amount of restitution to Pavlis' family.

The boy pleaded guilty last month to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

The maximum punishment was up to 90 days in a detention center, three years of probation, and loss of driving privileges for up to three years.

Prosecutors did not disclose whether any recommendations for community service were made, but did say such decisions are usually made by the probation officer handling the case.

The teen will serve his 10 days in a juvenile facility when school is out and can ask to be released from probation after 18 months - if he has complied with all terms of his probation.

Kevin Pavlis, 37, of Boise died after being hit on his bike June 11 on Hill Road in Boise's North End.

Boise police reports indicate Pavlis was riding legally in the eastbound bike lane on Hill Road when the boy turned his Jeep Wrangler into the cyclist, who was ahead of a group of other riders.

Another motorist on Hill Road at the time told police she saw the teen signal "a left turn and make a left quickly as if to beat (the group of cyclists) to the intersection," according to the Idaho Vehicle Collision report on the crash.

Pavlis was thrown from his bike to the ground, and though he was wearing a helmet, he sustained a head injury and died a short time later.

The teen admitted in March that he failed to yield the right of way to Pavlis when he made the left turn onto Smith Road, according to a press release issued Wednesday from Ada County Prosecutor Greg Bower.

Eric Pavlis said he remains "heartbroken" over losing his brother and said he really hopes that the death works as a powerful reminder for both cyclists and drivers to pay close attention and look out for each other.

"If anything good could come out of this, that would be it," Eric Pavlis said.

Bower said Wednesday he hoped providing information about the boy's sentence "will remind teen drivers and their parents of a driver's responsibility to be vigilant for, and attentive to, cyclists who use our community roadways."

Pavlis helped manage Boise's Idaho Mountain Touring outdoor-recreation store. He spent a lot of his free time with local cycling groups like the Lactic Acid Cycling Race Team.

A "ghost bike" tribute created by a cyclist who knew Pavlis - a bike painted white and chained to a fence - still sits near the intersection at Hill and Smith roads.

Survivors include his wife, Elise, and their daughter, Sarma, who is named after Pavlis' mother. She was 2 when her father died.

VELO PARK RACING!!!

Here is some info on the Velopark Grand Prix (). The first race is April 17.

The purpose of the series is to draw enthusiasm back in mountain bike racing and renew interest in the velodrome project. At no fault of the current promoters (Wildrockies & Knobby Tire), participant numbers at local mountain biking events continue to decrease while the average age continues to increase - a troubling trend. The venues provided by those promoters are not always suited for recreational riders that might be interested in trying a race.

The summer series at the velopark is inexpensive, the course will be a spectator friendly 4-mile loop, each category has the course to itself, and the venue is in town. With the local venue and friendly terrain, this event is well suited for first time racers.

Entry fee includes the cost of online registration. Online registration will close 48 hrs prior to the event. On-site registration is available from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Velopark the evening before each race and on race day. Race day registration closes one hour before race start. The distances listed and times expected are approximations and have yet to be determined. The start times listed are for the April 17th race and subsequent races may vary.

Like the runner's Hash House Harriers groups which have become so popular all over the world, including North America, we encourage those with half-a-mind to join to do so. Our trails favor advanced, recreational, and beginner riders: women and men. This was following a hard ride with Aquaboy, Jimmy and Blackhappy - including an accident that had the Cap'n t-boning Blackhappy and bouncing off the concrete. But she got up, dusted off and rode to glory.

This is f*&@ed up. So Tony Kornheiser got suspended from ESPN in February for making comments about female commentator Hannah Storm - yeah buddy that is called sexual harassment.

Now the dildo, ESPN's Tony Kornheiser, is making comments calling for automobiles to run down cyclists. Or, just give them a little bump. Does he have any fucking idea how much damage that can do - and thanks for inciting violence against a cyclists.Troubling -

The video follows. We are asking you to contact ESPN online and ask for Tony Kornheiser, host of Pardon the Interruption, to be suspended or better yet fired.

There are limits to free speech. Once you incite violence and add a direct call to action for drivers to "run them over like coyotes" or "bump" cyclists - you have crossed the line.

The liver performs several important functions such as producing the bile juice that aids in digestion, breaking down internal toxins and eliminating them, renewing your body energy, and so on. Only if you realize the importance of liver, you will be encouraged to keep it healthy. Now, let us proceed to the actual process of liver cleansing using cleansing recipes.

Do not eat a heavy breakfast or lunch on the day chosen for liver cleansing. You can take a light diet of fruits, juices, bread, or honey, etc.

It is also important that you avoid taking any medicine or pills which are not absolutely essential. Once you eat any of this, then remember not to eat after 2’o clock.

Make a mixture of the Epsom salts (3 tablespoons) and water (3 cups).

At about 9.45 PM, make a mixture of olive oil (1/2 cup) and grapefruit juice (3/4 cup)and don’t forget to shake the mixture vigorously. For improving taste, you can make a lemonade topping. After 15 minutes or so, drink this mixture along with the ornithine capsules (4-8). You have to drink 200ml Olive Oil mixed with 200 ml of your juice.

Immediately, lie down with a pillow under your head to hold it high and lie on your back. Try to remain static for at least 20 minutes after drinking this mixture. You would enjoy a good night’s sleep, especially due to the ornithine capsules. The next morning, preferably at6 AM, take the third dose of the Epsom salts.
Two hours later, take the last and fourth dose of these salts. You can start eating with a light diet after 2 hours of taking the last dose.

The recipe mentioned above is the first step for most people in the process of liver cleansing. You can proceed with other liver cleansing recipes once you start feeling comfortable

It is best to use a liver cleansing recipe to cleanse your liver at least once a year!!!

SB1351: Civil Penalties

So Tuesday in the Idaho Legislature, the Senate failed to pass SB1351 that would add a $75.00 civil penalty to all infractions involving bicycles (including motor vehicle interactions with bicycles). The civil penalties collected from these infractions would have been directed into a newly created Safe Routes to School Fund to be used by the Idaho Department of Transportation (ITD) to enhance their Safe Routes to School Program, making children safer
when travelling to or from their school.

While on another bill . . .

SB1349: Brakes

The Senate showed their disdain for a certain segment of bike riders by passing SB1349 that requires that all bicycles operating on Idaho roadways have a working brake. Let's get real - they are talking about "fixies" and even the language of their own bill shows a misunderstanding of how fixies work. The new section of the law would read:

"49-725. BICYCLE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED. Every bicycle, when operated upon a roadway of this state, shall be equipped with at least one brake adequate to control the movement of such bicycle and to stop and hold such bicycle."

The Fiscal Impact of the SB1349 indicates a small positive fiscal impact to local governments could happen from citations issued for no brakes.

What Now? Well, Put on the Brakes!

SB1349 moved over to the House yesterday and was held at the speaker's desk. This means essentially the Speaker of the House has held the bill and did not assign it to a committee for a hearing. We are hopeful the bill stays at the Speaker's desk, but encourage folks to contact their House representatives to ensure it does and tell them essentially what Rick Overton said in today's Statesman pro/con article, "Turning cops into brake inspectors squanders resources and antagonizes the cycling community without making anyone safer."

For Bicyclists Needing a Boost, This Wheel May Help

It is not easy to reinvent the wheel, but researchers at theMassachusetts Institute of Technology are giving it their best shot.

The Senseable City Laboratory at M.I.T. has designed a wheel that captures the kinetic energy released when a rider brakes and saves it for when the rider needs a boost. While technically sound, the wheel’s true challenge may be in winning over cyclists. For centuries, bikes have been beloved for their simplicity, not their bells and whistles.

But, said Carlo Ratti, the laboratory’s director, “biking can become even more effective than what it was.” What the lab is working on, he said, is “Biking 2.0.”

The new wheel uses a kinetic energy recovery system, the same technology used by hybrid cars, like the Toyota Prius, to harvest otherwise wasted energy when a cyclist brakes or speeds down a hill. With that energy, it charges up a battery inside the wheel’s hub.

The sleek red hub, called the Copenhagen Wheel, was to be unveiled in Copenhagen. It can be retrofitted to any bike’s rear wheel, and it includes sensors that track air quality, a meter that logs miles and a GPS unit to track routes. All that data can be sent via Bluetooth to a rider’s smart phone and shared with others.

The laboratory is trying to eliminate the clunkiness of other electric bikes with heavy batteries and unwieldy wires by placing all the technology into the wheel, said Christine Outram, the project’s lead researcher.

“It’s a technology that can get more people on bikes,” she said.

But other experts are skeptical.

“Just the basic bike is so hard to beat,” said Steve Hed, a wheel designer and the owner of Hed Cycling Products in Shoreview, Minn., who has fitted wheels for the likes of Lance Armstrong. “The latest things now are the simple, fixed-gear bikes, so simple and light you can throw them over your shoulder.”

This is a period of change in the bicycle design world, said Jens Martin Skibsted, a Danish designer who owns the biking company Biomega and the design firm Kibisi. Mr. Skibsted believes that over the next few years several popular new designs will emerge to serve an increasingly urban population trying to wean itself off cars.

In such periods of change, he said, “the winner will seldom be the one that’s most functional, but rather the one that can become an inherent part of our culture.”

“This wheel looks nice,” he continued. “Whether it will be long lasting, I cannot say.”

Back at M.I.T., another research group is hedging its bets on a different wheel model, spurning regenerative braking as an excessive addition.

“Regenerative braking hardware adds mass, complexity and cost, and the energy efficiency gains from it turn out to be surprisingly limited,” said William Mitchell, who runs a lab at M.I.T. called SmartCities, a research group devoted to improving urban energy efficiency through technology.

One of Dr. Mitchell’s doctoral students, Michael Lin, is also building an electric bike wheel, but it has to be plugged in to charge.

Mr. Lin is considering adding regenerative components as an external accessory, but not as a component embedded into the wheel’s hub.

“It’s a design tradeoff,” he said, “and my priority is to create a bike that is a true transportation tool.”

Mr. Hed, the longtime wheel maker, said that, if made well, both the Copenhagen Wheel and the GreenWheel might have a niche market — among bikers with a medium-length commute on modest hills.

“It could be great for people who have a 10-mile commute and don’t want to show up at work sweating,” he said.

Elderly bikers might also make a good target, Mr. Hed said. “For my mother it would be perfect,” he said. “She loves riding her bike and has one or two hills on her normal route that this could help with.”

Ever since the Cap'n and I went to NYC in October, I have had impure thoughts. Turning a cold shoulder to the four bikes that clutter our garage (that's not all of them - just the ones that belong to me) - I have fallen in lust with this:

Yup. Isn't she hot? The Raleigh One Way. I wanna ask her out, wanna ask if she'll be mine. But the Cap'n says I need to save my pennies (she's right) - so I am willing to sell my 2002 Gary Fisher Tassajara GS (size 15.5") for $400.

In addition to being a really great mountain bike - but I don't do much mountain biking - I put shimano clipless pedals on the bike and am willing to let them go to whomever buys. Here's what the mountain bike looks like:

Sunday was the first real ride we've had since HellRacer. Work, weather, and holidays have pushed us into our cars. Even with the flu I sill wanted to enjoy the the beautiful Sunday afternoon. We intended to ride over to Hyde Park Pub - watch a little football and have a beer. But half way through the ride we found I was too sick and it was too chilly for DBRB! So we changed course for something that would keep us warmer and sooth my cough!

Doctor sentenced to 5 years in prison for assaulting bicyclists in Brentwood
January 8, 2010 | 11:05 am

A doctor convicted of assaulting two bicyclists by slamming on his car brakes after a confrontation on a narrow Brentwood road was sentenced today to five years in prison.
Christopher Thompson, wearing dark blue jail scrubs, wept as he apologized to the injured cyclists shortly before he was sentenced.
"I would like to apologize deeply, profoundly from the bottom of my heart," he told them, his right hand cuffed to a court chair.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Scott T. Millington called the case a "wake-up call" to motorists and cyclists and urged local government to provide riders with more bike lanes. He said he believed that Thompson had shown a lack of remorse during the case and that the victims were particularly vulnerable while riding their bicycles.
The case against Thompson, 60, has drawn close scrutiny from bicycle riders around the country, many of whom viewed the outcome as a test of the justice system's commitment to protecting cyclists.
Millington said he did not take into account more than 270 e-mails and letters from cyclists that were filed with the court urging a tough sentence.
The July 4, 2008, crash also highlighted simmering tensions between cyclists and residents along Mandeville Canyon Road, the winding five-mile residential street where the crash took place.
One cyclist was flung face-first into the rear window of Thompson's red Infiniti, breaking his front teeth and nose and cutting his face. The other cyclist slammed into the sidewalk and suffered a separated shoulder.
At his sentencing hearing at the county's airport branch court, Thompson cited the Bible in urging cyclists and residents of Mandeville Canyon to try to resolve their differences peacefully.
"If my incident shows anything it's that confrontation leads to an escalation of hostilities," Thompson said.
Thompson, a former emergency room physician who described the crash as a terrible accident, testified during his trial last year that he and other Mandeville Canyon residents were upset that some cyclists rode dangerously and acted disrespectfully toward residents and motorists along the street, a popular route for bike riders.
On the day of the crash, Thompson said he was driving down the road on his way to work when several cyclists swore at him and flipped him off as he called on them to ride single file. He said he stopped his car to take a photo to identify the riders and never intended to hurt anyone.
But the cyclists said the doctor was acting aggressively from the start. They said he honked loudly from behind them and passed by dangerously close as they moved to ride single file before he pulled in front and braked hard.
A police officer told jurors that shortly after the crash that Thompson said he slammed on his brakes in front of the riders to "teach them a lesson."
Prosecutors said Thompson had a history of run-ins with bike riders, including a similar episode four months before the crash when two cyclists told police that the doctor tried to run them off the road and braked suddenly in front of them. Neither of the riders was injured.
Jurors convicted Thompson in November of mayhem; assault with a deadly weapon, his car; battery with serious injury; and reckless driving causing injury.

Per the Idaho Statesman this morning:

Three cyclists died on Boise streets this spring, yet the death of Kevin Pavlis may have touched the bicycling community closest to home.
Pavlis was a cycling enthusiast and recreation store manager, well-known long before his June 11 death. Pavlis died after an accident along Hill Road - a popular training route with inclines and hazards that are all too familiar to local cyclists.
Nearly seven months later, we don't know much more about Pavlis' death - because a local judge has sealed a criminal case against a 16-year-old Boise driver.
We do know this: The boy faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with Pavlis' death and has appeared in court. We also know, according to Boise police reports, that Pavlis was riding legally along Hill Road when the accident occurred.
But we do not know whether the driver is fighting the charge against him. We also do not know when, or whether, 4th District Juvenile Judge William Harrigfeld will unseal the case.
Harrigfeld is within his rights. Juvenile cases generally become public record after an "admit/deny" hearing, when a defendant either admits guilt or launches a legal defense. However, a judge has the option to keep a case sealed.
Yes, this is a high-profile case. Sealing the file does protect a young defendant from adverse public attention. But this right to privacy has to be weighed against the public's right to know. The legal process should strive for transparency at every step - especially when a case has drawn and will draw close scrutiny.
Pavlis' death has become a focal point in an emotional local debate over cycling safety - an issue complicated by the often testy relationship between drivers and cyclists. In a widely circulated e-mail this fall, cycling enthusiasts went on the offensive before charges were even filed, second-guessing the Ada County prosecutor's office's handling of the case.
Now that charges have been filed, emotions will paint the way the community judges the final verdict. An acquittal or a reduced sentence will draw a chorus of told-you-so's from the cycling community. A maximum sentence could draw its own backlash, with suggestions that prosecutors and the court bowed to public pressure.
All of this may be unavoidable, but much of it can be mitigated through an open process.
A white "ghost bike" still stands near the scene of the June 11 accident - a memorial to Pavlis, and a reminder to cyclists and motorists who share space on Hill Road. And, sadly, the display is also oddly symbolic of the court-imposed silence surrounding this case.

I'll admit it. I hate changing my own bike tire. Its not because I don't like to get dirty. Its not becuase I am wearing a dress. Its not becuase I don't know how. I just don't like it. Espeically when I can spend my valuable work hours blogging. Now, Captian Fran, I understand prefers to chainge her own while Velovixen and I both prefer taking it to one of our very-pleased-to-see-us local bike shops (or, in my case, persuade those who change tires to do so on site of my house, offering beer, enchiladas, whatever it will take).

But, a connundrum. I was feeling all tough riding through the last few weeks until the dreaded flat tire. Now, my sweet little Langster has lived in my office for three days while come fact to face with the quesiton: Is the real reason that I don't change my own tire actuall due to not liking to get my dress dirty and a lack of self confidence in my tire changing abilities? I have tubes (at home), but have not managed to bring them to work. Am I really not as (gasp) tough as I thought? Hmmmmm.

They have a great variety of beverages available for all sorts of pallets!

They also have a really good menu - Corn dogs and fries for a few bucks, or Vixen's favorite jalapeno & bacon mac 'n' cheese! The nachos are alright - for 10 bucks you don't feel like you get ten bucks worth of chips and goo. But you can order a side of sweet tater fries.

You gotta love lazy Sundays. Being able to read the paper, gorge on great brunch and sip a morning cocktail. Along those lines the Cap'n and I spent some time at the new Red Room Tavern recently - here's how it went.

First - I have to admit I was skeptical. I loved the Red Room Bar, its working class decor, cheap PBR's and Nintendo 64 complete with Duck Hunt. So when Pair announced they were turning the space into a martini bar and moving the Red Room concept into the Pair space I thought, "Great way to kill a good idea." But I've been wrong before - and was pleasantly surprised.

Kudos to the "Betty Ford Recovery" weekend Brunch menu! You can't go wrong with $6 bottomless mimosas and killer $4 spicy bloody marys.

Aptly named, the "Coronary" is biscuits and gravy, eggs, cheese sauce and topped with our favorite - bacon. We were introduced to this deliciousness during the Pair days and were so glad it stuck around. The sweet potato fries were also scrumptious with a special dipping sauce.

The great thing - you can have a lazy Sunday on a Saturday too - they serve brunch all weekend! And they have a late night happy hour complete with food menu to hopefully stave off the potential hangover.

Have you ever noticed that when you get home from a wonderful vacation - you are twice as busy as when you left! Trying to play catch up has been exhausting for the Vixen and myself. So here is the rest of the New York beer tour, sorry it took a month or so.

After another long day of riding the Island, Vixen and I needed a beverage to cure our parched bodies! We stumbled into lansdowner - a bar that would be a mix of Pengilly's and a sports bar. Nice and dark with old school seating - But TVs everywhere with every type of sport on!

We were so excited when we got the beer menu! Local draft beers! The large Chelsea Checker cab Blonde was buy one get one for happy hour - so of course that's what we ordered!

The beer was crisp and sweet. The pale ale is made in the style of northern Germany Kolsch beer. The finest imported Noble Hops varieties & 10% Wheat malt gives this brew a dry finish with a complex and yet delicate hop flavor and aroma. It is very very drinkable! We decided after four of those each we should move on to one of our favorite bars in the city - RUDY'S

Rudy's is the Nurelux of NY. Without the smoking!! It is dark and dirty and you are warned by many not to eat the free hot dogs! But beer wise - same as the lux - cheap and plentiful! We consumed a nice pitcher of Rudy's Special - at the price of 10.00. Be

prepared for a standing room only or sharing a

booth with strangers! And they have one of the best jukeboxes!

After consuming mass carbs after the ride we decided to hit the deli and head to the apartment.

This is when we had the Brooklyn beer. Sorry MEA - I felt that it was a little too much like PBR Light. I think it was because we had so many rich flavorful beers earlier. In hindsight I would have liked to start with this one.

The next day - of course we ate and drank, that was the purpose of the trip! We grabbed breakfast and jumped onto the "R" train to head down to Chelsea. We walked all over that place! Through the markets and Ed Hardy shops, through the cupcake shops and more. Two hours of walking and I was about ready to fall over. Vixen suggested we stop in the next bar we see and rest for a little. Oddly enough the next bar we stumbled onto was THE Stonewall Inn.

We sat at the bar and the owner was serving up these big ass BASS! We sat with our Bass and he told us the history of the

bar. It's been owned by 3 people, he being the third. And the

last owner attempted to turn it into a hip hop club - which

lead to it shutting down for a few years. After our first beer I handed him my credit card to pay and he gave me a quizzical look - "It's buy one get one honey - don't you want your second one?" Holy Crap! We ended up spending a few hours at the bar and getting tanked for 16 bucks! I highly recommend the happy hour drinks - hehe.

This was only the beginning of our shenanigans for the night!

We transfered from our Hell's Kitchen apartment to the Grand Hyatt Hotel. WOW - this hotel is really nice and crazy expensive! DO NOT GO TO THE BAR THERE!

We got fancy and decided to have some exotic food for dinner. Sofritos Puerto Rican Restaurant! It was our last night together in the city - we were ready to spend a little extra for the eat and drinks. But we really didn't need to.

The menu was pretty reasonable and had pitchers of handmade Sangria for 40.00

We ended up sharing the pitcher with the ladies next to us. It was one lady's birthday. It turned our to be fantastic conversation and they gave us some new places to go to on our next visit.

Our buddy Zach text us and wanted us to meet him at this place called American Trash. Now by this time Vixen and I had been drinking for six hours. We were feeling really good! So why not go drink some more!!!

This bar is the Cactus of New York with small flare of Tom Grainy's. And this beer is the best thing since the beer can was invented!

This is how the beer advocate describes it - It had that deep thick black appearance that an Imperial Stout has, but this beer was relatively light and creamy, with minimal stick on the palate, and only some heat in the finished, which perhaps has mellowed with age. This beer was a very nice drink, it has that thick beauty to it, without the heavy follow through on the palate. I would describe it to someone as a more toasty, robustly dark chocolate Guinness; which is never a bad thing!

Which is exactly why we drank a 12 pack each.

Around 2 or 3 in the morning we stumbled from the cab to our room and passed out! Did I mention that Vixen had to be at work the next morning at 7? And i had a flight to catch! Needless to say our last night in the city was a blast and we both paid for it the next day! I found a lot of new beers that I wish were served here - but that gives me incentive to go back to the city to find more!

New York

So while we were in New York biking the entire city, we of course drank an enormous amount of beer!

Of course if you are on the East Coast you have standard beers to choose from - Sam Adams, Ying Ling and.... I'm sorry where is all the beer? There was plenty of Coors Light, Bud, and Genius. But no PBR and not a lot of craft beers?! We found ourselves missing the dark and chocolaty beers of the Northwest!

Our first real good find was a Delta restaurant. I know we're in NY and we decided to drink NOLA beer. But we passed the window and I spotted our favorite southern beer - ABITA.

This TURBODOG was probably so good because it was the first beer there I couldn't see through! It was nice and sweet with a lot of nut flavors swirling around. Not a heavy beer, but a nice English Brown Ale. It was served nice and cold in the bottle.

Did I happen to mention we hit this place on a Sunday morning? The breakfast was just as incredible! Lots of salt and butter!

This is the fantastic chicken fried stake that Vixen had. It was tender and served with butter boiled broccoli. I had the bacon sliders!

This was our first meal outside of the apartment. From that moment on we had a mission - of finding the best beer and food that New York could offer!

I know it has been a little while since we've actually blogged about beer and bikes. There has been a whirl wind of stuff going on at the 3D house, not to mention New York and Hell Racer.

So let's go backwards through the last few weeks.

HELL RACER KICKED OUR BUTTS!!! Holy Shit!

At 10:45 yesterday morning the four horse women of DBRB rolled into Veteran's Park for the race. The Warlocks had Java to go for all of those that needed a little help with the early hours - very thoughtful. Also the Alley Cat stimulus package - 5 dollar entry fee and a real spoke card - a playing card with a number hand written on it! After pounding a few beers to warm up and having a late start for stragglers - we were divided by our card color and handed a manifest!

Yes, upon opening there were only a few stops! Sweet, a nice hard sprint ride. The Gaslight Lounge, A house on Fort, a house on Shoshone, Hyde park pub, O'Micheal's, and finish at the LIFT.

The four of us took off for the house on the bench first. A nice hill climb to find E77 handing out jello shots! And a slip of paper??? Oh an added stop at the cemetery - ok I'll adjust my route. hit the Morris Hill and roll down Americana to the house on Fort. Ah, a nice shot. I needed it, I was thirsty! Oh and another slip of paper..... I began to see the pattern. Crap. Alright I'll readjust my route to go out to Mt. Cove.

At every stop there was a new piece of paper. Almost every new piece of paper included a hill climb!!!! FREAKIN' A!!! The original route I planned was out the window by the time I hit my third stop. After going to Hyde park, The water tower by Camel's back, O'Micheal's, and the Bomb Shelter - I was just trying to survive!

I rolled into the Lift so ready for that beer - Chris and D-Bagg gave me a slip of paper - WHAT!
I told them I was done and fuck them. They told me I was a pussy and to get on my bike - which I did.

The second time I rolled into the Lift I was beyond ready for that beer. I didn't even care where I placed, I was done!

After many beers and hot wings, Chris finally asked if I was going to talk to him yet. Of course - so I bought him a shot because I was being a pain in the ass.

Although Vixen and I did not place - with the chain ring upgrade I did - I kept up with her and at one point passed her! I'm telling you - next season when I get my geared bike - ya'll are in some trouble!

Congrats to all those that did place - it was a hard ride and you kicked butt! Thanks Warlocks for a wicked time!
